05.11.2011 – Laura’s Birthday Remembrance

On the 5th of November a night was held in aid of the Laura Brennan Charitable Trust in St. Sylvester’s GAA Club. We wanted to get many of the young people that knew Laura to come together to not only celebrate Laura’s 20th Birthday, which was the following day, but to also remember Laura and to celebrate her life but to also bring awareness to the charity. The idea behind the night was to get young people more involved with the charity and what better way to do it then to have a disco type night with a great DJ (Paul Williams, a good friend of Laura), a raffle and some food and drink. It was a great night with a turnout of over 120 people. St. Sylvester’s were very generous and allowed us to use their function room for the night which allowed us to use the facilities such as the bar and provided us with food on the night. The businesses around the Malahide area were also very generous and kindly provided brilliant raffle prizes for our raffle, such as Wrights, Siam Thai and Clontarf Driving Academy and many, many more.

The night was a great success and when we were able to reach our target goal of and exceed it, by raising over €1330 for the charity. It was also successful in bringing back together many of Laura’s school year who left school over a year ago. A great night was had by all, and as it was such a success we may just have to do another one next year…Bigger and better than the last. It was an absolute honour to have gotten involved with the Laura Brennan Charitable Trust, and to have been allowed run such a night. We would do it again in a heartbeat.
