26.09.2013 - Charity Night Organised by Swords Fire Service
Well over €3,000 was raised following a successful benefit night for the Laura Brennan Charitable Trust.? Organised by The C-Watch of Swords Fire Service as a Gathering-type event, over 100 people turned out in force to support the night which took place in The Carlton Hotel on the Old Airport Road.
“We haven’t finished counting the money yet but it’s looking like over €3,000 was raised” said Tom McLoughlin of Swords Fire Service. “We had a great night with great performances from Niall Gilchrist and his band, the Dublin Fire Brigade Band and the National Ambulance Pipes and Drum Band”. He said the night “served its purpose” as a gathering-type event and raising funds for a local charity at the same time. “We got a lot of money from the ticket sales for the spot prizes which were extremely decent prizes from hotel breaks to gift vouchers from local businesses who all gave very generously” he added.
The money raised from the night was presented to the Laura Brennan Charitable Trust, which was set up in memory of Malahide teenager Laura Brennan who passed away at the age of 16 after a very short illness. Laura’s parents Nuala and Pat set up the Trust, which has now raised over €200,000 to provide support to children up to the age of 18 years who suffer serious, life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses in the local and surrounding communities. The Trust also seeks to ensure that remaining family members, brothers and sisters are not forgotten throughout the duration of the illnesses through nursing care, respite care, treatment costs, counselling services, bereavement counselling and follow-up and transport costs to enable medical treatment to take place where necessary.
“We would like to thank everybody who supported our benefit night, bought tickets, and organised spot prizes” added Tom.
