16.12.09 - Irish Life Staff Charities
The Irish Life Staff Charities was set up in 1995. At the start of each year, staff vote for a charity of their choice and, in a totally democratic process, the best supported charity is appointed as our “nominated” charity for that year. The Committee then organise various activities throughout the year to raise as funds for that charity.
In the early years, one charity was chosen annually. However, in 2006, it was decided to support two charities per year – one, an Irish charity working in Ireland and the other, an Irish-based charity working abroad. This change coincided with the agreement of Irish Life & Permanent to match the amount raised by staff each year, thereby allowing us to “double” our donation to charity.
To date, we have raised over €900,000 for numerous worthwhile charities, through a wide variety of staff-participation activities such as sponsored cycles, fashion shows, white collar boxing and a salary deduction scheme.
